The birthplace of Pouilly-Fuissé
A great white wine, born from rocks, climates, and Burgundian expertise
Pouilly-Fuissé,
between rock and light
In the south of Burgundy, in the heart of the Mâconnais, the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation shines through four emblematic villages: Chaintré, Fuissé, Solutré-Pouilly, and Vergisson.
Its rolling hills, its limestone soils, and its ideal exposure make it a unique terroir where Chardonnay finds one of its noblest expressions.
Chardonnay, the appellation's signature grape variety
A universal grape variety with Burgundian roots
Cultivated worldwide, Chardonnay finds its origin and greatest finesse in Burgundy. Moreover, a village in the Mâconnais bears its name.
A mirror of the terroir
Capable of accurately reflecting the characteristics of each soil, Chardonnay here offers wines that are mineral, fresh, elegant, or more structured and generous, depending on the climate, the age of the vines, and the aging style.
A rich terroir and a mosaic of climates
In Burgundy, a “climat” designates a named plot with a homogeneous terroir. Pouilly-Fuissé has more than 200 of them, spread across its four villages.
This exceptional geological diversity gives rise to a wide variety of styles, all united by a shared elegance.
The unique geology of the Mâconnais
The famous Rocks of Solutré and Vergisson, resulting from Alpine tectonic activity, have shaped slopes, exposures, and soils of rare complexity. No fewer than 15 types of soil coexist within the appellation, directly influencing the personality of each wine.
Growing recognition: towards the Premiers Crus
An ambitious collective approach
For over 10 years, the winemakers of Pouilly-Fuissé have been working towards the recognition of their best climats.
Geological analyses, comparative tastings, and close collaboration with the INAO led to the classification of 22 climats as Premier Cru in 2020, representing approximately 20% of the total area.
These plots reveal wines with a structured body, remarkable balance, capable of aging gracefully for many years. The Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru Les Crays is an emblematic example.
POUILLY-FUISSÉ
ACCORDING TO DOMAINE CARETTE
It all began with a love at first sight: for a land, a landscape, a rock. The Mâconnais, and more precisely Vergisson, became the place where everything took root. Here, between steep hillsides, dry stone walls, and vines bathed in light, a life project centered on wine, nature, and precise craftsmanship was born.
With patience and high standards, the estate grew. Parcel after parcel, vintage after vintage, a signature emerged: that of a sincere wine, deeply rooted in its terroir, crafted with care and humility.
No pursuit of volume or artifice here — just the desire to do well, to be authentic, and to share the purest offerings of the land.
Today, Domaine Carrette reflects this approach: a human-sized estate, committed to respectful viticulture, where each wine is the result of a balance between intuition, observation, and precision.
